第一篇A Young Officer and an Old Soldier(一)
1. visit 
① vt. 看望；参观；访问
如：Xiaoming went to Beijing to visit his uncle. 小明去北京看望他叔叔。
Which cities did you visit in China?您在中国访问了哪些城市？

2. want vt. 想, 要; 需要
[用法点睛] want to do sth.想做某事
want sb. to do sth.想要某人做某事

如：What do you want for your birthday?你生日想要什么？
He wants to clean the house.他想清洁房间。
I don't want Linda to hear about this.我不想让琳达听到这件事。
The house wants cleaning. 房子需要清洁了。
3. tellvt.(told, told)告诉, 讲述
[用法点睛] tell sb. sth./tell sth. to sb.告诉某人某事   
tell sb. to do sth.告诉某人做某事

tell a story/joke/lie/secret讲故事/笑话/撒谎/泄密
如：He told me his phone number. 他告诉我他的电话号码。

Tell me about your holiday when you come back. 当回来时给我讲讲你假期的事。

4. find vt. (found, found) 找到；发现
如：I can't find the car keys. 我找不到钥匙了。
I found a ten-yuan note in my pocket.我在口袋了发现了一张十元的纸币。
She looked at the box and was surprised to find there was nothing in it.
她看了看盒子，惊奇地发现里面什么也没有。
[短语]find out发现; 查明
[辨析]look for/find/find out
look for表示“寻找”，指过程；find表示“找到；偶然发现”，指结果；而 find out指通过探听或询问等方式“查明或发现”。
如：I looked for my pen everywhere but I couldn’t find it.  我到处找钢笔，但就是找不到。
He found a bag on his way back home.他在回家的路上发现了一个包。
You must try to find out who broke the window.你必须尽力查明是谁打破的窗户。
5. around prep. 在……周围；adv. 周围；大约
[短语] around the world全世界      look around环顾四周, 到处寻找
如：The whole family are sitting around the dinner table.全家围坐在餐桌旁。
The moon goes around the Earth.月亮绕着地球转。
We could hear the birds singing all around us.我们能听到周围到处都是鸟鸣。
We started looking around for somewhere to live.我们开始四处寻找住的地方。
There are 80 radio stations around the country.在这个国家有80家电台。

6. help

7. last adj. 最后的；最近的；刚过去的；vi. 持续 
[短语]at last最后, 终于    last year去年
如：December is the last month of the year.十二月是一年中的最后一个月。
I thought her last book was great. 我认为她最近出版的书非常棒。
Did you see the game on TV last night?你看昨晚电视上的比赛了吗？
We were home at last!我们终于到家了！
The meeting lasted two hours.会议持续了两个小时。
8. change vt. vi. 改变, 变化；n. [C U] 改变；[U] 零钱
[用法点睛]change A for B将A换成B 
change A to/into B将A变成B
如：Susan has changed a lot since I last saw her.自从我上次见到她以来，苏珊变了很多。
His attitude to/towards work has changed. 他对于工作的态度已经转变了。
The leaves on trees change colour in the autumn.树叶在秋天变颜色。
I bought these gloves for my daughter, but they're too large. Can I change them for a smaller size?
我给我女儿买了这副手套，但是它们太大了。我能换副小的吗？
He changed his name to Miller when he became an American.
当变成美国人时，他把名字改成了米勒。
A witch has changed him into a mouse.一个女巫把他变成了一只老鼠。
Her father tried to get her to change her mind.她爸爸努力想要让她改变她的想法。

9. wait vi. 等候, 等待

如：I waited for her in the office.我在办公室里等着她。
Many people are waiting to see the doctor.很多人在等着看医生。

Mary can't wait to tell her father the good news.

10. moment n. [C] 片刻；瞬间
[短语]wait a moment等一会
in a moment立刻；很快
at the moment目前：现在
如：He thought for a moment and then spoke. 他想了一会，然后(开始)说。
At that moment there was a knock on the door.就在那时，有人敲门。
Can you wait a moment, please?你可以等下吗？
